The Mysterious Cases of Havana Syndrome – In present day, hundreds of American spies and diplomats have been afflicted with debilitating and mysterious brain injuries. For the first time ever, extraordinary information will be revealed about those behind these terrifying attacks.
The Alien Abduction of Travis Walton – In the Arizona wilderness in 1975, forestry worker Travis Walton claims to have been taken by forces not of this world. Now, new evidence suggests that the alleged alien abduction might have actually occurred.
The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping – At the turn of the century, aviator Charles Lindbergh’s family was destroyed by the tragic kidnapping and murder of his 20-month-old son. A recent theory about the identity of a new suspect will shock even those closest to the case.
This season, EXPEDITION FILES will explore additional mysteries, including the tragic and bizarre deaths of the hikers in the Dyatlov Pass, the deadly curse of King Tut’s tomb, the identity of Jack the Ripper, and much more.
Explorer and adventurer Josh Gates is tackling the world’s greatest mysteries and making incredible discoveries on Discovery’s smash-hit adventure series, EXPEDITION UNKNOWN.
In this season’s special, two-part premiere, Josh travels to Jordan and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, the ancient city of Petra. At the heart of the city lies “The Treasury,” the enigmatic building forever remembered as the cinematic home to the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Despite being one of the most famous buildings on earth, The Treasury remains a mystery; experts continue to debate its age and even its true function. Now, Josh embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to work alongside archaeologists and excavate beneath this famous facade.
More than a million tourists a year set foot on the ground in front of The Treasury, but deep below, Josh and the team make a jaw-dropping and historic discovery - the presence of a long-buried chamber filled with secrets that could forever change what we know about this world wonder.
Josh will also travel deep into the deserts of Jordan to explore the world of the Nabateans, the mysterious civilization that built Petra. At the long-abandoned fortress of Sela, Josh embarks on a death-defying mission to scan an ancient inscription perched on the side of a cliff hundreds of feet above the desert floor. And half a world away in a lab in Kentucky, Josh witnesses how 21st century technology is virtually unwrapping ancient, burned scrolls to read writing from Petra lost in a fire 1,500 years ago.
Later in the season, Josh will dive down into the chilly waters off Cape Cod to assist divers excavating the world’s only authenticated pirate ship loaded with riches stolen by Black Sam Bellamy - a British-born swashbuckler who became the richest rogue in the Golden Age of Piracy.
In Puerto Rico, Josh will join explorers on the hunt for a lost Pan Am Airways plane which sank in 1952. The disaster changed aviation forever, yet despite the small area in which it could have crashed, Clipper Endeavor has never been found - a phantom lost in incredibly deep water 1600 feet beneath the waves.
Then, Josh sets off on a global manhunt for the Saint who became Santa. According to legend, the bones of Saint Nicholas of Myra were stolen in two brazen heists by sailors a thousand years ago and deposited in two different cities in Italy. Josh hitches up his sleigh to investigate the story of St. Nick’s mortal remains and whether DNA might help unravel the man behind the holiday magic.
Intrigued by legendary mysteries and driven by insatiable curiosity, Josh Gates is on a mission for answers. EXPEDITION UNKNOWN chronicles his global adventures as he investigates iconic unsolved events, and hunts for lost cities, buried treasures and sacred artifacts.
