Global adventurer Josh Gates explores some of the biggest mysteries yet when EXPEDITION UNKNOWN returns on Wednesday, June 19 at 9PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel.

In the two-part season premiere, Josh is on the hunt for the lost tomb of Alexander the Great, the conqueror who ruled over one of the largest empires in history until his untimely demise. His treasure-laden tomb has been lost ever since - its location one of the most sought-after mysteries of all time. A team digging in Egypt believes they are closing in on archaeology’s greatest prize, while divers are plumbing the depths of the Mediterranean for evidence of the royal necropolis. And a British historian may have tracked down Alexander’s sarcophagus and his mummified remains in the most unlikely of locations.

Josh Gates also travels above the Arctic Circle to lead search efforts for ultra-rare wreckage from a Barracuda, an extinct torpedo bomber from World War 2 designed to take out Nazi warships. Half a world away, Josh will search the ocean floor off the remote coast of Tanzania for Africa’s Atlantis to uncover what could be the lost city of Rhapta, the legendary trading outpost at the edge of the Roman Empire. In the United States, Josh hunts for treasure stolen by traitors during the American Revolution and tracks the lost loot from our nation’s first train robbers. Finally, Josh is on the trail of the saint who became Santa Claus, searching for the stolen bones of the real St. Nick on a quest that spans three continents.

Expedition Unknown sinks its teeth into Discovery’s annual week-long celebration of sharks with the #1 show of Shark Week in 2024!

Just off Florida's coast, Josh braves shark-infested waters in search of an American ship sunk by a Nazi U-boat during WWII. In this thrilling and historic episode, Josh dives down with shark specialist Tristan Guttridge who has a bold new strategy to use sharks as spies to uncover the wreck. Using both acoustic tags and cameras attached to the dorsal fins of bull sharks, the team captures incredible footage and discovers a long-forgotten wreck beneath the waves.

The episode helped Discovery rank as the #1 primetime cable network, excluding news and sports, for the week reaching 25 million total viewers across Discovery Channel, Max and discovery+, a 10% increase over last year. Throughout the week, Discovery owned seven of the top 10 telecasts among Adults 25-54 led by Expedition Unknown.

In the all-new series, Tales from the Explorers Club will take viewers inside the headquarters of the world-famous Explorers Club to relive the epic journeys of adventurers who have pushed the boundaries of human possibility.

As a member of this prestigious organization and the host of Discovery's hit travel-adventure series "Expedition Unknown," Gates offers exclusive access to the Club's storied archives, expert staff, incredible artifacts, and even fellow members and explorers. The series will profile the accomplishments of real-life action heroes including Ernest Shackleton, Gertrude Bell, Sir Edmund Hillary, Jim Lovell, and Chuck Yeager among others.

Each uniquely themed episode will focus on historic Explorers Club members whose daring accomplishments changed the world - from Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's historic first summit of Mt. Everest to a father and son's dangerous mission to explore the world's deepest oceanic trench, Challenger Deep. Viewers will witness the unforgettable journeys of those who dared to push boundaries by being the first to reach the North and South poles, risking their lives to explore outer space, and so much more. Additionally, each episode will highlight one trailblazing recipient of The Explorers Club Discovery Expedition Grant and showcase the innovative projects that continue to expand our knowledge of the world around us.
